My Life as an Eating Psychology Coach: Kim Bunney

My life as an eating psychology coach with Kim Bunney

What made you want to become an Eating Psychology Coach?

I was already a nutrition coach but I soon discovered that no matter how well written the nutrition plans were, only 1 in 10 people would comply with the plan without self-sabotaging their efforts. I knew there was more to Nutrition Coaching than just providing knowledge and expecting behaviour change. I felt I owed it to my clients to understand the whole picture.

As we are humans, not robots I wanted to deal with the emotional side of my client’s nutrition journey. I wanted to see sustainable progress with my client’s relationship with food, mind and body.

What do you love about being an Eating Psychology Coach?

The amazing personal transformations I get to play a role in are by far the most rewarding. Knowing that I have helped another man or woman end the war on themselves, is worth so much more than any words could express.

I see women move through feelings of loathing, punishing, and ignoring their bodies to nurturing, loving, respecting, listening, and understanding them. There’s a magic “light bulb of love moment” when they realize they are in control and it was always their choice.

What does your practice look like?

Mostly I do individual consultations in person or via phone with women, men, and CrossFit athletes.
I love to do “Mindset Nutrition” seminars. They run for 90 mins and I discuss all aspects of mind body nutrition. I complete seminars for fitness centres, corporate offices or I do more casual seminars at someone’s home.

For example, I can do seminars for a girl’s night in with friends with wine and nibbles!

I also specialize in working with groups in 6 week Mindset and Nutrition Group Challenges. These are not your average 30 day ban on fun. I really dig deep on an emotional level and get participants to change their perspective on many of their thoughts and beliefs about food, their lifestyle, and how this impacts their behaviours and affects their health holistically.

How did your education at the Institute prepare you to work successfully with clients?

This course utterly blew my mind! I did a complete 180 in the way I approached not only my nutrition clients but it also drastically improved my relationship with food and my body. Understanding my own struggles gave me a better platform to relate to and help others fight their battles.

What was your favorite aspect of the Training?

I really enjoyed the downloadable audios. Marc is so passionate! The lectures were truly inspiring and the information covered was in-depth, easy to digest, and easy to implement.

How has being an Eating Psychology Coach impacted your professional life/financial well-being?

I only graduated in May this year so my business is still in its infancy, but I have been able to leave my full time job and support myself whilst studying further. I can see my business growing stronger every day.
I am so proud of the work I am doing and the messages I am sharing. I am so pleased to be contributing now to the rise of self-love and embracing our bodies rather than fuelling the fires of self-hate and comparisons so commonly seen in the health and fitness industry.

How has being an Eating Psychology Coach impacted you personally?

If it weren’t for IPE I may never have uncovered my PTSD. I suffered with chronic fatigue, stress, and anxiety for 3 years. It feels so amazing to finally have answers and to be able to focus on healing the issue rather than continually worry about what was “wrong” with my health.

Before IPE, I was fixated on looking a certain way by following diets. I can honestly say now that I love and accept my body as it is and I eat a diet that is guilt-free and balanced with both body & soul nourishing foods. I’ve never felt so free!

What do you see for yourself in your future as an Eating Psychology Coach – where is your work evolving towards?

IPE has fuelled my passion for understanding human behaviour. I am currently studying to be a Registered Counsellor and have recently become accredited as a practitioner of the Australian Centre of Eating Disorders. I plan on continuing to influence positive change in people’s relationships with mind, body, and food through one-on-one consulting, seminars, and 6-week challenges both online and in person. I’d also like to specialise more in counseling people with disordered eating. Thinking big, I plan to write a woman’s gift comic book and hope to raise money for charity through its sales.

Why Would You Recommend the Training to Others?

Emotional health is a top priority for us all. I feel the health industry is fuelling the battle of people at war with themselves. They’re overtraining, punishing, under eating, binge and emotional eating, following fad diets, hating their bodies, and then passing it onto the next generation. It has to stop!
IPE gives health professionals the missing link to helping people reach their higher goal which is happiness, self-love, and acceptance. Once you’re on track to that goal, everything falls into place.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I can’t thank IPE enough for putting together such an amazing course.
It has changed my life and I can genuinely see it changing others’ lives for the better, too.
